TECOM Announces a New Ground Data Terminal (GDT) Antenna to Support Tactical Common Data Link

THOUSAND OAKS, CA (October 2006) --- TECOM Industries, Inc. announced today the availability of their Ground Data Terminal (GDT) in a Ku-band configuration to support current and future Tactical Common Data Link requirements. This new configuration is in production, and can be tailored to satisfy special requirements for U.S. and international military Tactical Common Data Link programs.

The new Ku-band GDT is a follow-on system to TECOM’s S/C-band GDT used for the Shadow ® 200, Tactical Unmanned Aircraft System (TUAS). The U.S. Army has indicated that all future systems that provide command, control and telemetry reception should be delivered with a Ku-band Tactical Common Data Link (TCDL) capability. In operation, the ground data terminal communicates directly with the TUAS, gathers data from onboard sensors over the area of interest, and transmits the data to the ground terminal for processing and dissemination.

“The capability to collect, process, and distribute real-time surveillance data is invaluable to both military operating units and law enforcement teams supporting Homeland Security,” said Ralph Phillips, president of TECOM Industries. “TECOM’s Ku-band TCDL antenna system is an integral, key component in this information-gathering mission, and we’re proud to be supplying this component in support of this critical mission.”

Over 100 TECOM GDT systems have been delivered to the U.S. Army including systems that have been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. Offering the lowest cost of ownership, spare parts for this system are common with existing in-field systems, reducing logistics cost. Fielded equipment can be easily upgraded to this new Ku-band configuration without extensive modification or down time.

Featuring a 4’ foot reflector, the TECOM GDT design offers high gain performance (+41 dBic, min.) in addition to the lowest weight system available today (<150 lbs.).
